MEF Exclusive Interview : Aiisha by Aiisha Ramadan

Aiisha Ramadan is a Fashion Design graduate from the American University in Dubai. She is winner of prestigious awards such as the Young Designer of the Year 2000 by Swarovski and the Gr8!

Women Achiever Awards 2011. Aiisha stood out for her personality and designs with her signature style merging the simplicity of the Western lines with the passion of the Middle East marvelling mostly in white, mini dresses, kaftans, and the use of powder and neon tones combined with her personal relationship with her clients.

How does your job as a designer influence your life?

Do you feel that you see things around you differently for example?

Fashion makes everything look more beautiful. I feel that I look at things more positively and that is reflected in my fashion. Its happy and comfortable, which is exactly how I feel. I don't stress on too much.. at least I try not to

Where do you draw your inspiration from?

Everything around, but essentially women, starting from myself.

When you create something, what goes through your mind?

How to create a piece of art.. what textiles to combine in order to come up with beautiful texture

(depending on the point of the design). I have always been able to imagine something at a better stage from the first time I see it. Even with women, the first time I meet them I can imagine the best hair cut that works on them.. Its similar with my designs.

You’ve recently launched a bridal collection entitled “ White Bridal”, what inspired you to do so ?

Its our first ever bridal collection and I tried to be true to myself keeping it simple.

What kind of materials do you prefer to use in your design ?

Lots of Italian guipure, French laces and silks.

How do you intend women to feel when wearing ‘Aiisha’ labeled clothing?

Elegant, comfortable and unique.

How do you see Fashion in the Middle East ?

Do you think fashion is getting the attention needed in the Middle East?

Its getting there. Myself and the designers from my generation in the Middle East are making history where the region will eventually have a clear identity.

Can you tell MEF about your future projects ?

We're currently working on our upcoming Bridal Collection and Couture. We have recently launched our first ever ready-to-wear collection for ICONIC boutiques across the Middle East.

What advice would you give for aspiring designers looking to get into Fashion design?

Get some training before you launch your line.
